Acqua alta on Halloween

An "acqua alta" peak of 143 cm - the highest level for two years - occurred at 1:40 am this morning in Venice. Another peak of 140 cm is forecast at11:30.  

The surge (shown left, courtesy of ICPSM) coincided with with an astronomical tide of 50 cm, giving a surge component of 93 cm.

Elsewhere in the Venice lagoon an even larger surge of 163 cm was recorded at Chioggia.
