Coastal Altimetry

Coastal altimetry is a set of techniques for retreiving altimetry information close to the shore, where previous altimetry analysis gave up because of  land contamination. By designing a suitable waveform retracker, data can be recovered in the coastal strip. 

Since coastal altimetry measures total water level close to the shore, storm surges are a natural application, and coastal altimetry is a key part of eSurge. The ALES processor has been designed for the project by the team at NOC (see this poster).
