eSurge at the 5th Coastal Altimetry Workshop

The latest workshop in the Coastal Altimetry series, bringing together scientists working on development and applications of altimetry in the coastal zone, was held earlier this month in San Diego, USA.

Paolo Cipollini of NOC, one of the eSurge partners, gave this presentation on the role that coastal altimetry will play within eSurge. Storm Surges are emerging as one of the new, topical applications of coastal altimetry. The presentation shows a couple of fitting examples of storm surge detection in altimetric data, one by Scharroo et al for Hurricane Katrina, and one by Guoqi Han for Hurricane Igor on the Canadian coast. The latter was originally presented in a poster at the workshop.

A full report on the Coastal Altimetry workshop, and links to all presentations and posters, will be available shortly on the workshop website.
