Landsat images show the construction of Venice's MOSE

ESA have published a pair of Landsat images showing the construction of Venice's MOSE barrier, designed to protect the city against high water.

The images are from August 1995 and September 2013, and show the construction work taking place around the three inlets to the Venetian lagoon. For more information on the images, see ESA's news story.

eSurge recently held its Storm Surge Networking Forum at ISMAR in Venice. This was held in collaboration with the eSurge Venice project, which has been set up by ESA to look at using satellite data to improve storm surge forecasts in the region.

The presentations from the Forum are available online, includeing those from a dedicated session on storm surges in Venice and the Adriatic.
