Storm surge in the North Sea

Flood warnings are in place on the UK east coast and the southern North Sea, with a storm surge from an winter storm expected to combine with high tides to give the potential for significant coastal flooding. As an example, the figure below shows the  NTSLF surge model forecast for Kings Lynn, as of 05/12/13.

Some reports indicate that sea levels could potentially be as high as the 1953 North Sea floods, though with significantly better coastal protection in place, vastly reducing the possible level of damage.

For the UK, see the Environment Agency website for their 3 day flood risk. For more general news see the BBC, including this live event.
