Surge from Haiyan may have reached 5 m in places

According to the reports from the areas worst hit by Typhoon Haiyan, the storm surge may have largely exceeded the predictions in places and reached 5 m. One of the places with the highest surge appears to be Tacloban airport, in a very exposed low-lying location on a peninsula 3 km SE of Tacloban City. A reporter cited eyewitness evidence that the storm surge reached the second floor of the terminal building, which appears to be almost completely destroyed.
