eSurge Training
eSurge's online training course is now online: Check it out at
http://stormsurge.ucc.ie/training
A key aspect of eSurge is to build relationships between service providers and the end-user community, to stimulate interest and awareness in the benefits of the eSurge system and operational products, and to improve the skills of professionals and operators in the field of storm surge forecasting.
To achieve this, the consortium will conduct training in using the system and products via both distance learning materials (DVD’s and CD’s to be made available on the eSurge Portal), and have held a 2-day face-to-face workshop in Cork, Ireland on February 20th and 21st, 2014.
The online training facility is available online, with a few remaining lectures and self-assessment elements to be finalised before March 2015. You can request a dvd version of the course or all lectures in a single download here.
eSurge training will inspire you to explore and research, it suggests avenues of research, and equips you as an end-user, researcher, or specialist with the key knowledge and skills to further your own research and forecasting capacity. It involves a series of lessons, providing background information on storm surge events, descriptions of the various remote and in-situ products (e.g. altimeter, SAR, SST, tide gauges), and how they can be used in Storm surge forecasting and evaluation. There are dedicated lessons on modelling, how observations are being assimilated into models, and how outputs are being interpreted. The training course also features opportunities for users to self-assess, and take part in interactive quizzes to facilitate learning.
